Podcast Soundboards. Count the Mics First.

Buy for the conversation

Mic inputs. Not just buttons.

Sound pads trigger intros and effects. XLR inputs connect microphones. Count the people recording in the room first; then plan headphone monitoring, remote callers, and separate tracks for editing.

Zoom PodTrak P4next

Take the conversation with you.

Our portable pick when the show needs up to four XLR microphones without a full-size desk console. Four headphone feeds let everyone monitor their own voice.

Record: 24-bit / 48kHz multitrack to microSD; USB audio interface with multitrack support.

The trade-off: Knobs, not long faders. Bluetooth requires the optional BTA-2 adapter; check the manual's channel routing before planning remote guests.

RØDE RØDECaster Duo

A focused desk for two voices.

Our compact desk pick for a host and one in-room guest. Two XLR/TRS combo inputs, hands-on faders, and voice processing keep the setup centered on the conversation.

Record: Stereo or multitrack to microSD, USB storage, or a computer. Dual USB interfaces and Bluetooth for connected sources.

The trade-off: Two physical XLR sockets. USB and compatible wireless options do not turn it into a four-XLR console. Choose around your regular in-room mic count.

RØDE RØDECaster Pro II

Give the whole table a channel.

Our desk-console pick when three or four XLR microphones are the normal show—not a rare exception. Four rear headphone outputs and six physical faders give a producer more direct control.

The trade-off: More console to fit on the desk and more routing to learn. For a consistent two-XLR show, compare the Duo before buying extra controls.

One last comparison

Same mic count.
Different workflow.

The P4next and Pro II both have four XLR inputs. The choice is portable recording with knobs versus a larger desk console with faders—not simply “more channels.”

Budget for the complete rig

The board is not the whole setup.

  • Microphones + XLR cables. One mic per in-room speaker is a practical starting point. These links are for the recorder or console—not full podcast kits.
  • Headphones + adapters. Match the plugs: P4next uses 3.5mm; the RØDE rear outputs use ¼-inch. Duo also has a front headset connection.
  • Stands, storage, and a test recording. Check supported memory media and your USB routing. Record and play back a short conversation before the real show.

Using USB-only microphones? Check compatibility first. An XLR socket does not accept a USB plug.
