First-time parents / Get your bearings

Start with what you already own. Keep feeding plans flexible. Add useful supplies—not every optional extra.

A starting list for everyday supplies, not a complete newborn, safe-sleep, travel, or medical checklist.

Two routines. Two shopping preferences.

Find your ten.

Choose a starter list—not a label for your family.

Mixed feeding? Borrow from both. These are shopping paths, not parenting labels.

Materials-first ≠ organic or plastic-free. Your choice isn't saved or shared.

16 options / Choose a path for ten picks

Your shortlist.

Choose a path for ten picks, or browse all 16 below.

What to know about this list

Start with the routine you actually use. Feeding advice should come from your baby's care team or a qualified lactation professional.

To add a pick, open it on Amazon and choose Add to Registry & Gifting. You choose the registry there; nothing is added automatically. See the steps ↗

Expressed milk

Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags

Storage for the feeds you actually plan.

6 oz capacitySingle-use bags
Details & trade-offs

A 100-pack of purpose-made 6 oz milk-storage bags. A practical option for expressed-milk feeds—not an automatic requirement for direct breastfeeding.

Before you add it. Single-use plastic, including in our materials-first path. Follow milk-storage guidance and pump compatibility instructions; adapters may be separate.

Formula routine

Munchkin Formula Dispenser to Go

Organize the powder. Follow the preparation instructions.

3 compartmentsDry powder only
Details & trade-offs

Three separate compartments hold pre-measured dry powder for time away from home. Useful only if powdered formula is part of your routine.

Before you add it. This is not a measuring device, sterilizer, or container for prepared feeds. Follow the formula label and CDC preparation guidance. Ready-to-feed users can skip it.

Everyday bottles

Philips Avent Natural Bottles

Plastic bottles for a practical feeding setup.

BPA-freeSilicone nipple
Details & trade-offs

The selected four-pack has 4 oz bottles with silicone Flow 2 nipples. Bottles can be used for expressed breast milk or formula; they are not exclusive to one feeding route.

Before you add it. Confirm nipple flow and bottle fit for your baby. This link is a four-pack—consider trying a single bottle before committing to a larger set.

Materials-first bottles

Philips Avent Natural Glass Bottles

A glass alternative, with its own trade-offs.

Glass bottle body4 oz · 4-pack
Details & trade-offs

Borosilicate-glass bottle bodies with silicone nipples. The selected set is four 4 oz bottles with Flow 2 nipples, for expressed milk or formula.

Before you add it. Glass is heavier and can break; rings and caps still use plastic. Check for damage, follow the instructions, and choose a suitable flow. Glass does not guarantee a better feed.

Feature sources: Philips glass bottle specifications ↗. Check the exact pack label; these are product attributes, not safety seals.

Everyday diapering

Pampers Swaddlers Diapers

Start with fit, then compare the real unit cost.

Fragrance-freeSize 1 · 198 count
Details & trade-offs

A mainstream disposable-diaper option. The selected Size 1 listing is fragrance-free; we are not treating everyday brands as a lower safety tier.

Before you add it. This is a large 198-count pack. Confirm size and fit first; avoid stockpiling one size. We do not claim it is always the cheapest option.

Feature sources: Pampers Swaddlers ingredient details ↗. Check the exact pack label; these are product attributes, not safety seals.

Label-conscious diapering

The Honest Company Diapers

Compare the materials—not just the branding.

Fragrance-freePlant-based inner liner
Details & trade-offs

The selected Honest listing describes a plant-based inner liner and is fragrance-free. A comparison point for families who read the materials list closely.

Before you add it. Not labeled organic here, not plastic-free, and not presented as medically safer than Pampers. Size, fit, skin response, and the current label still matter.

Feature sources: Honest diaper material details ↗. Check the exact pack label; these are product attributes, not safety seals.

Changing

OXO Tot Perfect Pull Wipes Dispenser

One hand free. One wipe ready.

RefillablePush-open lid
Details & trade-offs

A weighted plate and push-open lid give the changing station a dedicated place for wipes. A practical pick for families who already buy refill packs.

Before you add it. A convenience accessory, not an essential. Check that your preferred wipes fit, and keep the dispenser out of the child's reach.

Everyday

Burt’s Bees Baby Burp Cloths

A small stack that earns its space.

Organic cotton5-pack
Details & trade-offs

The selected five-pack uses organic cotton and a two-ply construction. Keep a clean cloth within reach for feeding-time cleanup and everyday spills.

Before you add it. You may already have suitable cloths. Buy around your laundry routine, not a giant stockpile. These are not bedding for a baby's sleep space.

Out & about

Skip Hop Pronto Changing Pad

The changing kit that packs down.

Wipe-clean padPortable clutch
Details & trade-offs

A portable clutch with a removable wipe-clean pad, wipes case, and diaper storage. Useful when you want changing supplies together in a smaller bag.

Before you add it. Your diaper bag may already include a pad. It is a changing surface, not a safe place to leave a baby unattended or asleep.

Changing

Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail

Skip the proprietary refill system.

Steel shellStandard trash bags
Details & trade-offs

The white steel pail accepts standard trash bags and uses a sliding lid. Worth comparing if a dedicated diaper-disposal bin fits your routine.

Before you add it. A regular covered bin may be enough. Follow the cleaning instructions and keep the pail, loose bags, and packaging away from children.

Bottle cleanup

OXO Tot Expandable Drying Rack

Give the small parts a place to dry.

Expandable trayRemovable trays
Details & trade-offs

An upright rack with angled pegs, removable trays, side cups, and an expanding lower tray. A considered add for households washing bottles or pump parts.

Before you add it. Check the counter height and your actual parts. A drying rack is not a sterilizer; follow each feeding item's cleaning instructions.

Out & about

Bumkins Waterproof Wet Bag

Separate the damp clothes.

ReusableZippered storage
Details & trade-offs

A reusable zippered bag for organizing changes of clothes and damp items. The snap handle makes it easy to carry alongside a day bag.

Before you add it. The fabric is waterproof, but the zipper means the bag is not completely leakproof. It is not for liquids or safe storage of medicines or hazardous items.

Bath time

Burt’s Bees Baby Hooded Towels

Two towels. Less laundry pressure.

Hooded towels2-pack
Details & trade-offs

The selected two-pack uses organic cotton knit terry with a hood. A straightforward gift when the family wants baby-sized bath towels.

Before you add it. Existing soft towels may do the job. Use for supervised drying, not as sleep bedding, and keep the baby's face uncovered.

Bottle cleanup

OXO Tot Bottle Brush Set

Reach the parts a sponge misses.

Detail cleanersStands included
Details & trade-offs

The selected two-pack includes bottle brushes with detail cleaners and stands. A companion to your feeding setup if those brushes suit the bottles and parts you use.

Before you add it. Check the feeding-product manufacturer's cleaning method first. Inspect and replace worn brushes, and clean the stands too.

Bath time

Skip Hop MOBY Bath Essentials Set

A more organized bath routine.

4-piece bath kitCaregiver pads
Details & trade-offs

This is the four-piece gray kit: bath rinser, spout cover, kneeler, and elbow rest. The kneeler and elbow rest are for the caregiver, not supports for the baby.

Before you add it. Check your tub and faucet fit. No part of this kit makes bathing unsupervised safe. Keep a hand on your baby and never leave them alone in water.

Home tech

VTech DM221 Audio Baby Monitor

Listen in without a camera feed.

Audio onlyTwo-way talk
Details & trade-offs

A dedicated audio monitor with one parent unit, two-way talk-back, and sound-level indicators. A fit for families who want audio monitoring rather than a video screen.

Before you add it. No video, and actual reception depends on your home. This is not a medical monitor or a substitute for supervision. Keep monitors and cords at least 3 feet from the baby's reach.

Editorial selections—not hands-on test results or borrowed Amazon review stars. Feature graphics describe individual products, not the whole list or a safety certification. Prices and availability stay on Amazon. Exact pack sizes appear beneath each paid link.

Make room for what matters

Your list. Not everyone else's.

If this guide helps, our registry link supports more guides at no extra cost to you.

What we mean by materials-first

Organic cotton is a textile claim. Glass is a bottle-body material. Neither tells you everything about a product. The Honest diaper option is not described as organic here, and the current Pampers Swaddlers listing is fragrance-free too. We don't present one brand as medically safer than the other.

Everyday doesn't mean “cheapest.” Materials-first doesn't mean “buy everything premium.” Fit, current labels, your budget, and what you already own still decide the list.

Feeding, fit & safety

This is a shopping guide, not medical advice or a safety certification. Confirm the exact model, age guidance, instructions, seller, and included parts. Recheck CPSC recalls ↗ and manufacturer notices before buying or using, including secondhand gifts.

Milk and formula need their own handling rules. Follow CDC breast-milk storage guidance or CDC formula preparation guidance, as relevant. A powder organizer does not measure the dose. Choose bottle flow for your baby, not from a generic registry list.

Keep sleep spaces separate. Follow CPSC safe-sleep guidance. Towels, burp cloths, changing pads, and bath accessories are not sleep bedding. Never leave a baby alone in water.

Mind the cords. Keep monitors and their cords at least three feet from the baby's reach. An audio monitor is not a medical device or a substitute for supervision. CPSC cord guidance ↗

How we chose the paths & labeled the links

Feature labels describe the named product, not the entire list. Manufacturer statements and the selected listing are not independent safety certifications. Recheck the exact pack and current label.

Four editorial shortlists, with ten starting points in each, organized by feeding routine and shopping preference. Not hands-on tested, medical advice, Amazon bestseller rankings, or customer ratings. Mix the paths and skip items you do not need.
